Hi! I’m Eyar.
When I was twelve, I witnessed my aunt give birth. I remember watching closely as my mother coached her sister in labour. The birth was at home in a birth pool, with her midwife, my grandma and my mother by her side. My mother was there because it was a family birth but also in her role as a doula.
From her, I learned how empathetic care during a delivery helps parents begin a new life stage feeling respected and empowered. Once I became a doula myself, I began to understand how empowered parents have the ability to create empowered families.
I am currently a third-year midwifery student at the University of British Columbia. I have also completed my lactation counselor education through Douglas College.
